Saasen (German: [ˈsaːzən], English: /ˈsɑːzən/) is a small village in municipality Reiskirchen, it´s in the district Gießen in Hesse. The place includes the parts of Bollenbach, Veitsberg and Wirberg, a former castle.

The village is located east of the main town in the valley of Busecker tal and at the Wieseck in central Hesse. A few hundred metres south of Saasen stands the main road 49 (B 49), Saasen has a train stop on the Vogelsbergbahn. There is no through traffic, because the road is located a few hundred metres. Add to that, the beautiful location is in Wiesecktal offered to settle here. 1852 Saasen, Bollnbach and Veitsberg had in 2004 1237 inhabitants. Now Saasen has about 1200 inhabitants. In year 1111 Saasen was first mentioned in a document. The Village Square

The village square in Saasen is surrounded by beautiful half-timbered buildings and it has been a stream in a well maintained small complex and varied the children's play area into a real gem. Bollnbach

Bollnbach is the biggest part on Saasen. Today in Bollnbach live 48 peoples, many years ago Bollnbach was a own municipality. There is also a Maibaum (Maitree) with the names where they peoples live. The part Bollnbach had two mainroads Wirbergerstreet and Saasenerstreet. Bollnbach has a very popular Pup called "Römer", the same name like the owner. In the mid of Bollnbach is standing the "Schäferhaus" the main hall in Bollnbach.

Wirberg

The Wirberg is a former monastery in the district of Gießen. It is located on the eastern edge of town Reiskirchen, located between Saasen and Göbelnrod about eight miles north-west of Grünberg. The church on the Wirberg was once the Protestant Church for the Grünberger districts Göbelnrod, Beltershain, Harbach (Grünberg) Weitershain and Reinhardshain. Today it serves as a church for special occasions.

History of Wirberg

Between 1134 and 1148, the Premonstratensians Monastery Wirberg composed of Premonstratensians [[Otto von Cappenberg}}, who until his death in 1171 Provost of the Palace Cappenberg Klosters. Cappenberg was founded as a so-called double monastery. His brother was Godfrey of Cappenberg already occurred as the founder of the monastery Ilbenstadt. The Wieseck is a left tributary river of Lahn in the front of Vogelsberg. It rises in Reiskirchen and Lindenstruth. The river is arises in Saasen and ends after 24.3 miles in the local train station in Gießen. The Wieseck is springing in the Wieseckquelle in mid-Saasen.

Use and natural geography

The so-called Wieseckaue between Großen Buseck and Giessen city is a popular destination for citizens of Giessen. Elections to the town council were last held on 26 March 2006 for a five-year term. The SPD lost one seat, the Grünen gained one. Voter participation fell from 45.9% in 2001 to 37.2%. Out of 38,918 eligible voters, 14,468 went to the polls.[3] Hesse's next municipal elections will be held in March 2011.

Mayor

Mayor Holger Sehrt (SPD) on 9 September 2007 in the first round with 60.3% of the votes for a second term confirmed. The turnout was 52.0%.[4]

The best known footballclub in Saasen is the sports club SV 1936 Saasen. SV Saasen has also other sections for bowling, gymnastics, and table tennis. A other known club is the youth academy JSG Saasen/Harbach/Ettingshausen[5]

The fire department

Saasen has a own fire department and a fire service , with many laborer from outside. The fire department is voluntary (Freiwillig) in Saasen. It is one of five in the district but the second largest after the department in Reiskirchen. The firedepartment is used to the maximum radius of 30 km from Saasen but it is works often in the own district. The House of fire epartment Saasen stands exactly in the middle of the village next to the playground and the restaurant zur Traube. [6]

Sport and culture hall (Sport und Kultur Halle)

The "Sport und Kultur Halle" is a multifunction hall in the edge to Eastsite. The sports and culture hall is the biggest hall in Saasen. In the hall is mostly celebrated sports festivals and large events. The owner of the hall is Reiskirchen but the chef of that hall is Oswald Menz. The hall was built in the 70s, but it had many renovations. The last bigger renovation was in year 2010.

Sportplatz am Wingert

The "Sportplatz am Wingert" is a small football stadium at north site. It has 2,300 seats to stand and 100 seats to sit.
